Rhys Matthews, Percussion
Percussionist Rhys Matthews has enjoyed much success performing with a variety of orchestras. Professional engagements have included performing with: BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Welsh National Opera and Sinfonia Cymru. Rhys has had the opportunity of performing at The Royal Albert Hall, Symphony Hall, Royal Festival Hall, The Sage Gateshead & The Bridgewater Hall. Rhys is a diverse professional musician, often performing in a variety of styles and concert settings. Engagements have included: Live BBC Radio 3 Broadcasts, TV & Radio recordings for BBC and S4C (Welsh Television), BBC Proms and tours with International Artists.
In 2012, Rhys joined RSL Arts Awards (Rockschool International Examination Board) as their youngest examiner. Rhys examines modern music exams in piano, vocals, drums, guitar and bass for the examination board. Examining commitments have taken Rhys to Asia, South America and Europe, as well as exams in the UK. Extended examination duties include marking and assessing diploma examinations in teaching and performance. Rhys is now also a Theory Moderator, Vocational Assessor and Vocational Moderator for the examination board.
Michael Davies, Piano
Welsh pianist Michael Davies is a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music where he spent six years under the tutelage of Norma Fisher, receiving a first class Honours degree in 2009 and a Masters in Solo Performance in 2011.
A passionate chamber musician, Michael loves working with other musicians and regularly collaborates with fellow RNCM graduates to give concerts around the UK. Highlights have included performances at the Bridgewater Hall, the Wigmore Hall, and to a sold-out audience at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival with the ACM Ensemble. Michael is currently a staff pianist at the RNCM and continues to perform as a freelance musician.
